Whispering Hope Clinic is located in the village of Chapagua which is 12 miles from our hotel in Trujillo. It is situated in the middle of 13 other villages that are similarly economically depressed and without health care facilities. All of the villages are within a half day walking distance. Many also travel by bicycles, horseback or in trucks that haul people.

The clinic sets along the main dirt road on a site that was gifted to MHS. Construction began in 1994 and was first used (although unfinished) in 1995. It consists of four medical exam/treatment rooms, a 2-room pharmacy, a 4 chair dental room, a medical laboratory, a health education room, a triage room for sorting patients, a parasite room, a staff lounge, two bath rooms and a general storage room. The 3,500 sq. ft. facility has a covered front porch that serves as "out-patient waiting area".

Our storage shed houses our gasoline generator that can supply electricity to the clinic when the utility poser is out for any reason. Similarly, we have an underground cistern that holds plenty of water to operate our clinic facility.

Villages are scheduled on specific days. Mayors and Vice Mayors are present on the day that heir villages are scheduled so that they can verify that we see on the patients on their scheduled day. Likewise, the school teachers from their village attend on "their day to teach the patients health education so that they can help prevent some of their diseases". These classes are required, regardless of their previous clinic attendance.

We have forged a meaningful and most helpful partnership arrangement with the village people, their leaders, and officials. Our philosophy is to "teach them to fish", not just toss them a fish.

The villages are most grateful of our care and attention to their needs!
