We believe that it is critically important, in the spirit of enabling the community to help itself, to support higher education for village members. By helping some of the brightest and most ambitious students to continue beyond the sixth grade, their chances of leading a better and more successful life are dramatically improved. This will inevitably lead to the students eventually giving back and enriching their own villages.

In the 2000 school year, we started a program to help students who had the capabilities to finish school, but did not have the money to provide it. We started with the selection of 20 students who represent the 15 villages that were served by our clinic.

"Friends of MHS", through donations, have established and Educational Scholarship Grant Program for students who need financial assistance and the desire to pursue further education. This grant program is available to selected students who otherwise could not receive further education. The selection process is void of bias based on nepotism, political, religious or family connections.

This scholarship program is so important because it is unrealistic to think a family would have to pay 1/3 or 1/2 of their annual income to allow one child to continue in school after 6th grade.

A Selection and Oversight Committee was established for the Educational Scholarship Grant Program. The Committee members are:

  • Sr. Hector Mendoza
  • Dr. Tesla Ordonez
  • Sra. T. Ordonez (teacher)

Please help us support these bright and deserving students. In 2010, the scholarship cost for a scholarship student for 1 year is $600 U.S.
